COLORADO
SPRINGS, Colo. – Sturman Engine Systems of Woodland
Park, Colo., has signed on as the newest sponsor of
the Adelphia Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Sturman
Engine Systems will have its latest technological wonder,
a truck with Sturman Proprietary Camless Engine Controls,
on display at most of the Hill Climb pre-race events.
Sturman
Engine Systems plans to drive this Camless Truck (International
Class 7) to the top of Pikes Peak later this month – making
it the first Camless vehicle to reach the summit. Using
Hydraulic Valve Actuation, Sturman Engine Systems is
able to completely remove the camshaft to create an
energy efficient, low-emissions diesel engine.
Sturman
Engine Systems is a joint venture between Sturman Industries
and International Truck and Engine Corp. International
is the world’s largest manufacturer of mid-sized diesel
engines. By applying this new Camless Hydraulic Valve
Actuation technology to diesel engines, the I-6 “will
have performance equal to a diesel V-8, with 20% better
fuel economy, a 35% manufacturing cost advantage and
70% lower NOx emissions,” promises International Vice-President
of engine engineering, Patrick Charbonneau. Particulate
emissions will be reduced to 90% below the EPA’s proposed
2010 diesel regulations. International announced at
a recent press conference that the Sturman Camless
Control Technology is planned across all International
product lines by the year 2007, with production beginning
in 2004.
Sturman
Engine Systems was founded in 1995 as an offshoot of
world-renowned R&D Company, Sturman Industries - both
located in Woodland Park, Colo. Sturman Engine Systems
was formed for the marketing and manufacturing of this
and other revolutionary technology, developed by Sturman
Industries, to the automotive world.
Sturman
Industries, founded in 1989, applies patented digital
valves, originally developed by Eddie Sturman for the
Apollo Space Program in the 1960’s, to various applications
requiring fluid control, making them more efficient
in terms of energy used, speed and precision.
Sturman
Engine Systems is excited to be a part of its first
Adelphia Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and hopes
this new relationship will continue to provide an arena
for it to showcase its latest and greatest advanced
technology as applied to vehicles. The Hill Climb begins
June 28 with the 2000 Kickoff and Technical Inspection
at the Citadel Mall. Practice begins June 29, qualifying
is July 2 and the 78th Race to the Clouds runs on July
4. For Hill Climb tickets , call (719) 685-4400 or
