“TECHNOLOGY TO WATCH: STURMAN INDUSTRIES”
Amory
Lovins, Chairman and Chief Scientist, Rocky Mountain Institute, in his speech
”Expanding the Vision of Sustainable Mobility”
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
In a speech delivered at the Art Center Summit 2009 in
Sturman
Industries co-founder, Eddie Sturman, happily learned of Mr. Lovins’ remarks,
and said, “He gets it! Amory is right! If we do not change the way
we think about controlling engine combustion and fuel efficiency, we will never
be able to change our destiny. Instead of cleaning up the mess afterward,
we need to manage combustion properly to begin with.” Sturman President
and Chairman, Carol Sturman, added, “We can’t ignore the realities which remain
outside our control, like crude oil prices. However, we can combat those
realities with proven advanced engine technologies that can use many different
fuels and are aimed at improving fuel economy and reducing emissions and
reducing the need for costly after-treatment.”
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINE RETROFIT
Through the
use of practical and affordable digital hydraulic valve controls, Sturman
technology can help answer national, global, environmental, and economic
demands. Sturman is preparing to introduce an affordable engine control
retrofit package for application to existing fleets and which can also be
applied to new engines. The “E-Retrofit” (the E is for Environmental) is
designed to improve engine efficiency, reduce emissions and after-treatment, and
enable broader alternative fuel usage. The product goal is to make
existing engines comply with future demanding emission standards - providing
fleet owners with an environmentally and economically beneficial
alternative to current after-treatment products.
Sturman is
currently engaged in discussions with industry partners for manufacture and
market introduction of the E-Retrofit.
OTHER APPLICATIONS
Enabling
Sturman control technology is being used in trucks, pick-and-place manufacturing
machines, irrigation systems, and other applications. Sturman is also
pursuing the use of its technology to benefit large scale and distributed
stationary electric power generation to improve efficiency and enable the use of
renewable fuels. Founded nearly 20 years ago, Sturman Industries has been
making a positive contribution to the world through its innovative products and
unique company culture. Sturman technologies make SENSE: Simple,
Efficient, Needed, Safe and Economical.
