Sturman Industries’ engine test facility, located at 8,700 ft, is uniquely situated for high altitude testing. However, via use of a Combustion Air Supply unit, Sturman’s dynamometers are also able to perform testing down to sea level conditions. AIR CONTROL
Combustion Air Supply Unit (CAS)
  • The CAS System is able to compensate and form an intake plenum condition adjustable from 0 ft to 6,500 ft above sea level, with a control dead band to 8,640 ft above sea level
  • Temperature Controlled Intake Air from 50°F to 100°F +/- 1°F
  • Humidity (Relative Humidity) Controlled from 10% to 90% +/- 2%
After-Cooler
  • After-cooler and outlet air temperature control to +/- 10°F
Exhaust Restriction/Back Pressure
  • Employs engine exhaust to compensate and form an exhaust plenum of exhaust adjustable from 0 ft to 8,640 ft above sea level
  • Inlet depression is adjustable per specification – Butterfly Valve
  • Exhaust restriction is adjustable per specification – Butterfly Valve
  • After-Cooler depression is adjustable per specification – Butterfly Valve
 
FUEL MEASUREMENT
  • Superflow Gravimetric Fuel Weigh System for accurate fuel consumption measurements
  • Multiple fuel sampling time constants for more accurate fuel measurement
  • Fuel temperature control per specification +/-5°F
